Mom Like Me: Rachel Franks

Rachel is the kind of person that as soon as you’re in her presence…it’s like instant happiness & peace! Her energy just exudes the light of the Lord & being around her is sooooo good for my soul! She has such a way with words & she is such a beautiful & loving mother…she always seems so at peace with her babes! I met her initially through her husband, Brandon, whom I’ve known since I was little. And I love being able to watch their family grow. The Franks…they are one of the most compassionate & loving families out there!

What does it mean to you to be a mom?
To learn more about my children and who God made them to be! To learn their unique giftings and personalities, and to help them grow into them and develop those.

What is your favorite part of motherhood?
My goodness – so much! I love holding my babies. I love encouraging them. I love when we practice things and then it clicks for them! I really love seeing who they are and who their becoming. It’s such a gift and I’m just grateful to be a part of it.

What have you found to be the hardest part of motherhood? Or least favorite part of motherhood?
I wouldn’t say this is necessarily the hardest part, but I have been challenged to mother with intentionality. To think through our decisions and to choose them wisely and well. To play that decision out in our minds and think of future benefits/consequences that could result. But at the same time, releasing any perceived idea of control I have and trusting that Jesus loves them even more than we ever could. Oh and also, sacrificing my love of comfort every day. But it’s so worth it.

If you could compare motherhood to one thing, what would it be?
Brandon and I always say choosing to be parents is as if we’re asking to get our hearts broken…as they grow up and change and certain seasons fade away. But that’s only when we’re being dramatic; we truly love experiencing the good and hard of each new season!

In the spirit of encouraging & celebrating each other – what is one piece of advice you would give to a new mom?
The biggest thing I’ve learned is that this day/moment in their development/season of life is not indicative of how things will always be. In the throughs of a particular challenge, it’s so easy for me to get caught up in the worry that “this needs to be fixed right now”…but there’s such beauty in the process of my child and I learning more about each other, and in the time it takes when I’m putting in the hard work. Advice: Time and waiting is not a bad thing! Enjoy each season for what it is. Rest in not knowing it all or having it all planned.  Motherhood is so much about playing the long game.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To go back in time & relive all my favorite moments!

If you had an afternoon to yourself, what would we find you doing?
Prepping the freezer with meals OR sitting at Starbucks!

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Indirect communication…the worst!

On a scale of 1 to the center of the sun, how hot do you like your shower water?
Center of the sun! It killed me to take lukewarm baths when pregnant!

Not only is Rachel a wonderful mom & friend – her kiddos are some of the CUTEST around! I’m so thankful that the good Lord brought her into my life so many years ago & I while we don’t get together as often as I’d like, every time we do hang out, it’s as if no time has passed at all. A true mark of friendship!

Thanks for stopping by, friends!
