Mom Like Me: Kara Dudley

Oh, this mama brings me so much freaking JOY! We met freshman year of college when we were pledging the same sorority! The same sorority we both ended up quitting right after initiation…but that’s neither here nor there. I went away to college for a handful of years in Texas and I had no idea how homesick I would be. Thank goodness for Kara because she was just like home to me! We spent so many nights laughing until we would cry & the memories I have with her in Texas are some of my absolute favorites! And guys…you do NOT want to miss her story on the weirdest thing that’s happened to her since being a mom. I about died laughing & immediately texted her to make sure it was okay that I shared it here! Buckle up your seatbelts…

What does it mean to you to be a mom?
So I have to share this quote because it sums it up.

“The thing about motherhood- you want it to speed up and slow down on the same day, you want them to be grown-ups and babies at the same time, you miss the moments as you’re living them, the things that drive you insane are the things you know you’ll miss the most, you want a break but miss them on the break, you want to cry because you’re so broken but you also want to happy cry because you’re so whole, you lose yourself and find yourself almost every day. You have no idea what you’re doing but know you’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing…It’s just the way it is.”

Being a mother has been the most rewarding part of my life. God chose me to be these two little beautiful girls mama and I feel blessed daily. I feel like a better person because of them and they make me want to be a better person.

What is your favorite part of motherhood?
My favorite part is the baby snuggles. Babies don’t keep – it’s so true! But also, watching my girls figure things out and try new things. All their milestones and the pride I have in them.

What have you found to be the hardest part of motherhood? Or least favorite part of motherhood?
The hardest part hands down for me is the mom guilt. I really felt it with Ellie, my first. I felt like I couldn’t have a good time without her. It took Marc, my mom and a lot of friends to tell me it’s okay to be you and don’t lose yourself in motherhood because it will not be healthy. I also had to forgive myself a lot and not be so hard on myself or my girls. If Ellie is trying my patience I immediately think, “Oh my gosh – I don’t want that to be a habit.” But it won’t be I just have to chill and do what I can.

What is the WEIRDEST thing you’ve done as a mom?
I mean I don’t know if it was weird but Ellie was 4 weeks old and she and I were running errands and I really had to poop! The kind where you’re sweating & squeezing your butt cheeks together. Well as a new mom you feel like you have 1,500 steps to get out of the car- get your baby & grab all of the things. So I’m doing all of this in our driveway because I can’t obviously leave my baby in the car to go poop and as I’m getting her out I SHARTED! Legit sharted my pants… then I called Marc told him and cried then laughed with him. Guys…that’s just life.

Nickname your parents used to call you:
Are you ready? Moo Moo. It was mortifying in middle school and high school. When I was a baby we lived in Greece and the babysitter would call me Glouclamoo, which means pretty baby, although I’m not even sure if that is what it means! So my aunt started calling me Moo Moo, Schmoo Schmoo, kara moo…My grandparents joined in, then all my aunts…But I honestly haven’t been called that in a while! Thank the Heavens!

Favorite holiday & why?
I love Christmas – it’s always been my favorite! I always loved it because my family would come to town and everyone would be in one spot. I love the season, I love the smell, I love the food, I love the baking and I love all the things winter/Christmas. It’s so much better as a mother, too. This past Christmas was one of the best I’ve had because of all the things Ellie got to experience and I can’t wait to share traditions with both girls now.

Based on your children’s personality at this very moment – what would their high school superlative be?
Ellie- Life of the Party
Madelynn- Most Talkative

She is a force to be reckoned with & while we’ve been miles & miles apart for so many years, it honestly feels like it’s only been a few months since we’ve seen each other. We both keep swearing that we’ll make a trip to see each other, but man it’s hard when you have kids! One of these days…her and I will escape on a mom’s weekend getaway to somewhere tropical & we’ll get into all kinds of trouble. I promise to live stream the whole thing 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, friends!
