Mom Like Me: Katie Sicheneder

Katie and I have something really special in common! Something that only a select few will understand. We are rugby wives. Which means our husbands have more than a few screws lose & love to run around with other dudes in short shorts. It’s not to take away from the super manly sport, but one of my favorite parts of a rugby game is getting to chat with the other wives and girlfriends there. The actual rugby match itself is just a bonus. Needless to say, Katie and I have bonded over having half-crazed husbands and being pregnant at the same time back in 2017!

What does it mean to you to be a mom?
To me, being a mom to me means so many things! I need to be a teacher, a nurse, a psychologist, a referee, a best friend, a good communicator, a chef, a maid, sometimes a medium (to read their minds) and a protector. Being all these things never were a list that was made before I had children. This list came automatically and I got better at them after each child.

To be a mom, I feel like, you learn to feel unconditional love. I never understood that word. I thought I did with my childhood dog, Molly. I loved her like no other. Whether she chewed my favorite teddy bear or peed in my bedroom – I still loved her. BUT, when Layne, my son, came around – WHOA! That was so different. I loved him at a whole different level. A level that I couldn’t really put into words, because it was so big. A level where I would do anything and everything for this little body & not sure why! That is unconditional love. A love that has no boundaries.

What is your favorite part of motherhood?
My favorite part of motherhood is hearing “I love you mom” out of the blue. It tells me that in their heart, they feel that unconditional love for me and want me to know, whenever, wherever, that they love me. I feel like this means more to me than a goodnight kiss, or stated during a goodbye. It shows they will think of their mom and feel the need to tell me they love me. Makes my heart overflow!

What have you found to be the hardest part of motherhood? Or least favorite part of motherhood?
Poop. Throw up. Messy rooms. Temper tantrums. Boy toilets. Definitely boy toilets.

In the spirit of encouraging & celebrating each other – what is one piece of advice you would give to a new mom?
My best advice is to NOT take to heart any advice! You are a mother now, so GOD wanted you to be a mother to this child. HE will make sure you know what to do and the right thing for you and your new baby. I’m not saying don’t listen to the advice, totally make a list of everything! But don’t feel obligated to follow everything everyone says! You got this GIRL!

Based on your child’s or children’s personality at this very moment – what would there high school superlative be?
Layne (10): Most likely to succeed
Laelynn (8): Most likely to flip out at any moment
Rori (18 months): Class clown or bully depending on the minute – she’s a real wild card

Someday I want to:
Open a domestic violence secret therapy house for women and children to come for help.

What are some of the items on your bucket list?
Own a goat. Own two goats. Own a goat farm. Maybe do some Goat Yoga.

How many hours of sleep do you need? How many hours of sleep do you ACTUALLY get?
I need 8. I get 6. Only because there are some people in my bed (*Cough Cough* husband) that act like they do NOT hear baby cries. Like his hearing just disappears when he falls asleep. My intensifies I guess.

How many cups of coffee do you drink a day?
½-1 depending on how many times I need to reheat. After the 5th reheat its a lost cause for me.

On a scale of 1 to the center of the sun, how hot do you like your shower water?
About 10 feet from the sun. I like to burn my skin until its a bright red tone. Then when I turn the water off, I’m not so cold. Plus, if I shave my legs, then burn them good with the water, the hair doesn’t grow back as fast.

This girl had me CRACKIN’ up with her answers! She is too funny & so quick-witted. I love getting to hang out with her even though our times together are so far & few between! She is one of the SWEETEST people you will ever meet & she always has a positive energy about her. Plus, her youngest daughter has the magic ability to fall asleep almost anywhere (see below for photographic evidence). It’s quite hilarious actually!

Stay tuned for more mama features tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by, friends!
