I’ll never forget when I met Audra our freshman year in high school! I thought she was so incredibly cool & I was SO excited to invite her to a sleepover at my house. Wow…that makes me sound like such a loser. Either way, she accepted & we became fast friends. Two years ago when I told her I was pregnant with Quincy she was so thrilled for me & then blew my mind by telling me she was ALSO pregnant! Being pregnant with one of your best friends is so much fun – not to mention, maternity leave was a total blast! Growing together into such a tough & incredible role has been so special.
What does it mean to you to be a mom?
I think being a mom means that you are raising (or have raised) a human being. And that little person loves you with their whole entire heart. Being a mom means that you are responsible for providing your child with all the knowledge and experiences to be successful in their future- no pressure, right? Being a mom means you would sacrifice anything for your child and you love them more than anything in the world.
What is your favorite part of motherhood?
Just seeing how much love my son, Oliver, has for me! When he does something funny and looks at me to see if I’m going to laugh, too. Or when he snuggles me at night when I put him to sleep and he tries to give my face little open mouth kisses in the dark. Or the way he cries and runs to me when he is scared or hurt. I secretly love that he needs his mommy (over his daddy) to make everything better.
What have you found to be the hardest part of motherhood? Or least favorite part of motherhood?
Mom guilt! I hate being away from Oliver. I feel awful leaving him to go to work, especially now that he sometimes cries for me to stay. On the other end, I feel guilty when I’m exhausted and don’t feel like playing with him. Like I know I should always want to take advantage of that time, but sometimes it’s just hard after playing with kids ALL DAY LONG (I am a pediatric Speech Therapist) to come home and want to play even more.
If you could compare motherhood to one thing, what would it be?
Honestly, that’s such a tough question. It is like nothing I have ever experienced before. As he gets older and goes through different milestones, I just think it just gets even better. So let’s compare it to a fine wine – because it gets better with age. And goes really fast!
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I’d like to just be able to get stuff done with the snap of a finger… like Samantha from Bewitched! So I just never had to clean, do laundry, cook, etc. all my time could be spent doing things I enjoy with my family. Omg, that would be amazzzing!
On a scale of 1 to the center of the sun, how hot do you like your shower water?
So hot that it burns at first but then you get used to it – so like a good solid 10!
Is double dipping at a party ever acceptable?
Well…if no one is watching!
It has been so much freaking fun to raise my kid alongside Audra & Oliver! I am excited & slightly terrified to witness the shenanigans they get themselves into once they’re a little older…I’m sure Audra & I will complain about their attitudes & them missing their curfews over a bottle or two of wine. But that’s what great friendships are based on – am I right?!
Thanks for stopping by, friends!
