May Happy Hour

Wine…err not for the next few months at least!
If you haven’t heard the news…I’m pregnant! Which means…no wine for me. In lieu of wine, in this monthly happy hour articles, I’ll share some of my favorite treats/pregnancy cravings with you! Reader beware…I’m about 100% sure that 95% of the food items I’ll more than likely recommend will not be healthy options. It’s all about balance though, so I could be wrong?!

Cry Your Eyes Out

I’m starting this month’s Happy Hour article with something that was so incredibly moving…I still can’t think about it without getting a little verklempt. Everything about me finding this movie was random. It was a Tuesday night & I was looking through movies on Hulu, which I rarely do because their selection is subpar at best. I’m not sure what prompted me to pick this movie because I knew really nothing about it, but I do know that I love Julia Roberts & Owen Wilson so I gave it a go.

Holy-freaking-moly. Guys…drop whatever you’re doing & go watch the movie, Wonder. I honestly don’t know if I can put into words how much I was moved by this movie. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a mom, or because I’m pregnant, or because I’m simply a human being with a heart…but it was so incredible. The story of August Pullman is so incredibly & apparently, this was based on a book which you can bet I’ll be getting a copy of that ASAP.

All in all – this is definitely a must see movie! Make sure to grab tissues though because the back of your hand will only go so far when wiping away the river of tears.

Salty & Sweet

The best part about this specific highlight…it can be paired with ANY of the other things mentioned in this article. Hands down…world’s best trail mix!!! I’d be hardpressed to find something tastier than this. And of course…it’s from Target because Target…duh. I’m convinced that the Peanut Butter Monster trail mix is a gift straight from the heavens because something this divine can only come from Jesus himself. I know it sounds like I’m kidding…but I take this trail mix recommendation very seriously. It is so so so so so SO good!

Book

I don’t know what got into me this past month & a half but I could not finish a book to save my life. Actually…I know what happened. I downloaded some silly word game to my phone & my addicted personality took over & I’m almost to level 1,000. I’ve made a pact with myself..once I reach level 1,000 – I’m deleting it! It’s taken over my life & all my sacred reading time. Despite my sick addiction to games on my phone, I did manage to finish my 6th book, Capital Gaines by the one & only, Chip Gaines.

I had originally purchased the book for my husband & he finished reading that thing in like 7 days flat so I figured it must be a good one! One thing I really enjoyed about reading this book, is taking note of all the parts my husband felt worthy of underlining or highlighting…it was a tiny peek into his head. All in all, the book was really incredible & it was so fascinating to learn even more of the story of Chip & Joanna Gaines. I’ll be the first to admit it…I’m a huge, HUGE Chip & Jo fan, so I really enjoyed this book. In between all of the insightful entrepreneurial knowledge is the famous Chip humor that we’ve all come to know & love. I would definitely rate this book a 7/10 even though I crawled through it a snail’s pace.

Next up…A Spark of Light by my absolute favorite author, Jodi Picoult! Stay tuned for June’s Happy Hour to hear my thoughts on this. I’m about 5 pages in & I’m already hooked. Surprise, surprise!

Popcorn & PJs

Schitt’s Creek
Do you ever get SO invested into a tv show & then all of a sudden you realize you’ve just watched the last episode on Netflix? UGH…talk about a downer! I have recently become obsessed with Schitt’s Creek thanks to my cousin, Alyssa. I can proudly say I binged all 4 seasons in less than one month. Not sure if I really should be proud of it – but I am none the less.

It’s a great story about a family who came from everything & lost it all…it’s humorous & I found myself laughing out loud multiple times! The family dynamic cracks me up & the dramatics of it all, really put this one over the top! I would highly suggest watching this & I’m counting down the days until season 5 is released on Netflix!

Salty & Sweet Update
I’ve made quite a dent in this bag…so much that I’m almost ashamed to admit how much I’ve devoured. I’m going to be an adult & put the bag away so I’m not tempted to eat the entire thing in one sitting. Ugh….being an adult is stupid!

Podcast

Asking for a Friend – Lauren Conrad
I have recently (and by recently I mean within the last 6-8 months) discovered the wonderful world of podcasts & I was so freaking excited to hear that LC from Laguna Beach was starting her own! I’ve religiously listened to all 3 episodes & I’ve really enjoyed it thus far! This is probably going to sound very stage-5 clinger of me, but with podcasts, it’s super important to actually LIKE the sound of the host’s voice. And Lauren’s is so soothing & relaxing…it’s like chatting with your best friend in their living room. I don’t know how this gal does it but she seriously makes everything look so dang easy.

If you’re looking for a new pod, I’d suggest giving this one a listen! Or if you prefer the darker side of things…Behind the Bastards is also another great listen! But we can save that for another Happy Hour!

I’m not sure how this is freaking possible but tomorrow is JUNE! We’re almost halfway through this year…and that is just mind-blowing! I feel like there are a million more things I want to try, see, visit this year. So tell me…what do you guys want to see me try in June? Do you have a good book or recipe, or new movie or TV series I should binge? Let me know – I’d love to hear from you guys – just drop a note in the comments below!

Thanks for stopping by, friends!
