June Happy Hour

Snacks
While I don’t fancy myself a big drinker, these hot summer days/nights have me jonesing for a refreshing cocktail! I have a handful more months before I can indulge so for now…pizza rolls & popsicles it is! You think I’m kidding…I’m actually not. While I’m an old veteran when it comes to pizza rolls, I’m trying a new kind of popsicle, Jonny Pops – stay tuned for a review!

Jodi Picoult – A Spark of Light
I will not sugar coat this book. It was heavy…probably one of the more heavy ones I’ve read from Jodi Picoult. It’s based around a shooting that happens at an abortion clinic in Jackson, Mississippi. It’s told from the different points of view of people in the center during the shooting, the shooter himself & a handful of others.

At first, I had a hard time keeping track of all the characters, I almost started jotting down their names & story backgrounds on notecards so I could quickly refer back to them when the narration changed. While I am a huge, HUGE fan of Picoult’s, I’ll be totally honest…this was probably my least favorite book of hers. I completely & totally understand the importance of this story & this book, but it was really difficult for me to get through some parts. And worst of all, I had invested so much time into this book & these characters & the entire ending was wrapped up in about 4 pages. I finished reading the book & thought to myself, “Surely this isn’t the end…the ending was too rushed…there has to be more to it.” But alas, there was not.

While I wouldn’t NOT recommend this book, I would caution those who picked it up. But what do I know, others may read it & gush! Just wasn’t my cup of tea. On to the next one!

Popcorn & PJs

Gosh dangit…I am ever so slightly ashamed to admit which Netflix show I binged in record time this past month. I’ll preface this by saying, the show is loosely based off the Archie comics & I know zero about comic books. So a knowledge of comic books is not required! Currently, there are 3 seasons on Netflix & I have to say…the first season was my favorite. While I really enjoyed learning more & seeing the main characters develop more in the 2nd and & 3rd season…there was something so epic & entertaining about the 1st!

Spoiler alert: If you become invested, you will have multiple freak out moments where at least 1 of the 4 main characters is on the verge of death. My husband thoroughly enjoyed watching me yell at the television while I paced in our basement. You have been warned.

Jonny Pop Update

Quincy & I shared two of their flavors; Root Beer Float & Vanilla Mint Chocolate! They were both so good & Quincy was NOT a fan of sharing. Only downfall so far…there’s only 3 in a box, but the upside is – they’re currently having a sale at Target! These would make great treats for the 4th of July coming up!

Eye Candy
Last week this was a hot topic on my IG stories! I seriously thought I was the last person to hear about the benefits of a silk pillowcase, but apparently, I was wrong. I did, however, have a handful of people tell me which ones they love! Long story short, silk pillowcases are supposed to be great for your hair & skin. They help your skin retain moisture, reduce the God awful bedhead frizz & split ends. Say no more…I’m trying one of these bad boys out! Below are links to some that were recommended to me:

Amazon: Bedsure Satin PillowcaseDude…it’s $8.98 for a 2pack….

Amazon: NTBAY Silky Satin– Bonus for this one – zipper closure so your actual pillow doesn’t slip out! Genius!

LilySilk– A bit pricey than the first two options, but it looks like they run specials & sales on their site pretty frequently.

Slip Silk – By FAR the most expensive, definitely too rich for my blood but for all my readers who are rollin’ in the dough, this might be one to check out! The site actually claims “It’s like an 8-hour beauty treatment every night” What I’d like to know if the pillowcase comes with a money-back guarantee on the 8 hours of sleep…because I would be much more interested if that were the case!

Well, folks, that rounds out this month’s Happy Hour article! I’m always looking for new recipes, books, shows & things to try, so if you have a suggestion that you think I’d like, just drop a comment in the notes below!

Thanks for stopping by, friends!
