January Happy Hour

Welcome to a new series I’m testing out- a monthly happy hour(ish)! There are a handful of bloggers I follow that are always sharing their favorite things & whenever I see something that piques my interest, I’ll quickly take a screenshot so I can remember it for later. Whether it’s a recipe, a book, a movie, a podcast, life advice, a new wine…I love to hear what’s working for others & what others are interested in.

Mostly, this is a place where I’ll share with you some of the things that I’m loving, new things I’m eyeing and I’ll do this all over a glass (or two, or three) of wine! Each post will come out at the end of the month & I apologize ahead of time what I say/type while indulging in adult beverages.

Side note: you know that super annoying question female celebs get asked ALL THE TIME on the red carpet, “Who are you wearing?” … well, I won’t share with you what I’m wearing for a couple of reasons, 1) that feels creepy & 2) I’m most likely wearing sweatpants while I write these posts. but I will share with you, what new wine I’m drinking! So, grab a glass of vino, tea, coffee, good ol’ H20, kick back & take a gander at some goodies from January.

First things first…

Tonight, I’m trying out one of those hipster “single serving” boxed wines. I put loose quotes because who am I to judge what’s a “single” glass of wine…but for all intents & purposes, this baby is telling me it has 3 5.6 oz per pack. I’ll give a full review once I’ve finished, most likely at the end of the article. Bottoms up!

Nose in a Book
I absolutely HAD to start with this one because OH. MY. GOSH. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read a Jodi Picoult book & I tell you what…I could not get enough! I honestly had no idea what the book was about before I added it to my Christmas List – a friend had recommended it & I used to read Jodi Picoult all the time in high school so I figured I’d like it either way.

WHOA NELLY…I was not ready for the emotional roller coaster this book would take me on. Parts of this book made me sick to my stomach, I cried, and at points… I felt sympathy for the antagonist, I could not put this book down! The best part, it opened my eyes to an entire world I (ashamedly) knew very little about. I have continued & WILL continue to suggest this book to everyone I meet! Do yourself a favor & order this on Prime ASAP!

Popcorn & PJs
Yes, I love Netflix & yes, I occasionally will jump on their newest bandwagon. Although I’ve refused to watch Bird Box because 1) it looks creepy & 2) everyone & their mom was talking about it. But there was really no point trying to avoid this one. Also, kudos to Netflix marketing department for releasing this at the beginning of a new year, whenever everyone wants to turn a new leaf & better themselves. Long story short…I binged this in like 2 days & don’t regret it one bit. While I can’t necessarily get on board with folding every single piece of clothing, I can’t help but smile when Marie Kondo asks her clients if something sparks joy…she’s just simply adorable!

This section gets a two-for-one because Netflix is killing it. Raise your hand if you watched every single episode of Gossip Girl (guilty). Raise your hand if you developed a deep crush on Lonely Boy (guilty). Raise your hand if you were TERRIFIED of the lengths Lonely Boy, or in this case, bookstore Joe went to assure he had Beck all to himself (friggin guilty). Netflix’s new series, You…boy oh boy. I am thoroughly impressed & slightly disturbed with Penn Badgley’s devotion to being a certified 5-stage clinger. Also, as soon as I finished season one, I immediately googled when season two was coming out. Still no word.

WINE UPDATE – ½ a glass in & realizing how much of a lightweight I am. If your glass is looking empty, pour yourself another & hang on to yer britches, ya’ll.

Eye Candy
Texture Powder – Alder New York
Here’s one of those products I saw another blogger post about! I love trying new hair products & I swear most days I’m fighting an uphill battle when it comes to getting some good volume in my hair. The reviews look rather promising & I’m contemplating ordering some to try it out. We’ll see how I’m feeling after another glass of the boxed vino.

Podcast
I’m definitely new to the podcast world & I swear I listen to like 10 different ones on any given day. But the one I listen to on a regular basis is Jenna Kutcher’s, Goal Digger Podcast. Talk about women empowerment…she talks business, lifestyle, her infertility journey, marketing tips & tricks & my most favorite episode to date, the birth story of her baby girl, Conley! Forewarning, I shed tears listening, but I’m also a huge cry baby. Either way, you’ve been warned.

Internet Gems
In 2019, I’m all about making sure I’m taking the right steps to make this my most successful year yet; personally, professionally, spiritually, you name it. If it’s going to make me be the best version of myself, I’m all in. In my search for self-betterment (I’m not even sure if that’s a thing), I ran across a few articles from a newsletter I receive daily.

Alright, friends…our first happy hour is coming to a close! Mostly because it’s approaching 9:00pm & I’m an old fart & also I’ve almost finished the wine…SO! What did I think of the wine? Some of you asked as soon as I posted it on my Instagram stories. I should confess right now, I am probably not the best judge of wine, but I honestly didn’t hate it. It was $4.99 for the mini box, so that should show you how fancy my pants really are. Overall though, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was anticipating & I’m pretty excited to try the other options!

Either way, so glad you joined me for happy hour & can’t wait to share my favorites with you next month! If you have a movie, book, Netflix series, wine, or ANYTHING you think I should try – drop a note below in the comments below!

Cheers to a successful January & an even more promising, February! I can’t wait to share with you some of the articles I have up my sleeve!
